CRASH - Chiswick Residents Against the Spread of Heathrow

In November 2007 the Department of Transport started a three month consultation period seeking views on how its plans for Heathrow Airport could meet air and noise pollution standards.

Central to this process were the proposed plans for a third runway, sixth terminal, the introduction of mixed mode operation and an end to runway alternation, based on the government's White Paper of 2003 - The Future of Air Transport. Many of these proposals, if implemented, would have a significant effect on the lives of approximately 4 million people who live under existing and proposed flightpaths.

Chiswick (postcode W4), is a mainly residential suburb of west London. The southern reaches lie under an existing Heathrow flightpath, and the proposals would bring a significant increase in the number of flights as well as introducing another flightpath to the north. Yet the government did not include many Chiswick residents in its consultation by refusing to send consultation documents to the majority of W4 households.

After a locally organised public meeting attracted almost 1,000 attendees in January 2008, CRASH was founded to represent the views of the residents of Chiswick and South Acton who are opposed to any further expansion of Heathrow Airport, and to provide information which the government had failed to do.

CRASH is not affiliated to nor funded by any political party.
