Actions you can take

The Secretary of State for Transport has announced his decision on Heathrow expansion.

  • The third runway is to go ahead
  • A sixth terminal is to be built
  • The Cranford agreement is to be scrapped
  • The limit of annual movements is to be raised as soon as possible from 480,000 to 605,000 with a review in 2020
  • To accomodate the third runway and sixth terminal the village of Sipson will be destroyed, along with part of Harmondsworth and a reduction in the size of Harlington

Westerly perference remains, meaning 70% of flights into Heathrow continue to fly over London.

Mixed mode will not be introduced as an interim measure, but there is no mention of the longer term.

So we can expect a 26% increase in flights over west London, with more from 2020, and a new flightpath over Chiswick High Road.

Listed here is a number of actions you can take to make your views known.

Save Cherry Lane Cemetery PDF Print E-mail

Documents which were released as part of BAA's consultation over the proposed third runway at Heathrow contained a map showing a spur road passing over the site of the Cherry Lane Cemetery in Shepiston Lane, Harlington. Cherry Lane is the only operational cemetery in the Hayes and Harlington parliamentary constituency and many of the residents have loved ones buried there.

In May 2008, Donna Casey, a spokesman for BAA, denied the company was planning to build roads through the cemetery. She said: "The document is not wrong, but shows an indicative layout of where road access schemes could potentially be located if the Government made a decision in favour of a third runway. Future road access schemes would be subjected to a detailed design process and transport assessments in partnership with the relevant authorities. We apologise if local residents have been distressed by the map, but we can confirm that graves would not be destroyed."

Assurances from BAA are worth nothing. No Terminal 5, no third runway, no sixth terminal - all promises which have been cast aside by this land-grabbing behemoth. Now, to have the gall to say that the document shows an "indicative" layout is rubbing salt in the wounds that these plans have already opened.

You can register your protest against these plans by signing

Don't let them do it!
