BAA claims bias in appeal against forced sale of airports PDF Print E-mail

Professor Peter Moizer, the Dean of Leeds University Business School, has become embroiled in BAA's appeal over the forced sale of three of its seven UK airports.
 
BAA yesterday accused the Competition Commission of "apparent bias" over its decision to force the company to sell Gatwick, Stansted and either Glasgow or Edinburgh airports. It is appealing on two grounds to the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

The first, it said, was "because of links between a member of the Competition Commission panel and an organisation interested in acquiring the airports that BAA is required to sell". While BAA did not name the individual, it is understood to be Prof Moizer who stepped down from the six-strong Commission panel investigating the airports operator on March 3 – 16 days before the final report.

That's rich. The company that invents fantasy jumbos and provides the DfT with selected data accuses the Competition Commission of "apparent bias". Thankfully the Competition Commission appears strong in its resolve.

In a couple of years the government's plans for a third Heathrow runway will be a distant memory.

And so will BAA.
